February 16, 2006- Chess Bitch
was shortlisted for Book of the Year on www.chesscafe.com.
Congratulations to the winner Michael Marin, author of Learn from Legends.
February: I was hired by the United States Chess
Federation
to be the web editor in chief. The site, www.uschess.org
will be
redesigned and launched in June. This, along with freelance writing is
my focus now, which is why there are no upcoming chess tournaments on
my roster. Wish me luck on my new path(s) as a writer/editor/chess
promoter! Any ideas or contributions to the website are welcome. Email
me at Superjenium1@gmail.com
Also: Check out the awesome review
of Chess Bitch in the British Chess Magazine, by the
chessmaster, author and feminist Cathy Forbes.
Another great review of Chess Bitch by New York journalist Peyton
Moss is in Foreword Magazine.
Past Events
January 31- Thanks
to the Mechanics Institute in San Francisco for staging a wonderful
signing and reading of Chess Bitch.
Jan 21- The
House of Chess in Cleveland hosted me for a simul and reading in the
Northern Mall. It's amazing to see a chess store between
Starbucks and Foot Locker. I hope this is a precursor to a chess
explosion in America. Read two cool
articles about the event, in Cleveland's biggest daily, The
Plain Dealerand West Life.
January 14- This season has been full of chess and art in New
York, and I'm proud to have been involved with so many events at the
Noguchi Museum in Queens. The Jennifer Shahade vs. The World event was
particularly fun. Instead of a traditional simul in which I play up to
40 people at once, at the Noguchi's Jan.14 event, I played 20
people, two at a time. Although less visually striking than a
simul, I think the participants appreciated the intimacy of this event.
And I appreciated being able to have some nice conversations and not
having to walk ten miles while playing! Those waiting could play
amongst themselves or look at the wonderful Imagery
of Chess Revisited exhibition, which has just been extended to
April 16. Be sure to stop by.
January 3- I was on the Leonard Lopate show! Check it out online!
November 26- Thanks to
everyone who came to my
book signing at the National Chess Congress in Philly.
Fall
2005- Congratulations to the Baltimore Kingfishers for winning
the first ever U.S Chess League. As the manager of the New York
Knights, I commend my own team on a great season. Be sure to
check out the website at www.uschessleague.com
!
